Changes after the assessment of PWDs
     From July to August, 2010, the survey has been done to make sure the effectiveness of the assessment of PWDs by PWDs as the following purpose and method.

Purpose

         The purpose of the survey is to make sure the effectiveness of the assessment of PWDs by PWDs, which was held from May 2009 to March 2010.      Also to make sure the importance of Disabled Peoples' Organizations and Self Help Organizations, which would take the responsibilities of these kind of activities.

Target

         PWDs, living in the 12 Union Councils, Abbottabad, who were interviewed by the project staff from May 2009 to March 2010. Targets was selected at random

Method

         Interview by 6 staff with disabilities and 1 sign language interpreter (Sister of the staff with hearing disabilities).

    Note: It is necessary for the Disability Certificate to get the permission from the government organiation both in medical and social authority.

    The assessment included the following activities

      - To explane the Disability ID Card
    Note: It is necessary for the Disability ID Card to get the permission from the government national ID card authority after getting the Disability Certificate.

Assessment of Non-Disabled People
     The assessment of Non-Disabled People by Disabled People had been held for six months from Feb. 2009 to Aug. 2009. The detail is as follows;

Purpose

    Collecting Information

    - Basic information of Non-Disabled Peopple
    - Social Participation of Non-Disabled PPeople
    |Prejudice & Discrimination against Disabled People

    Individual Awareness raising

    - Decrease the prejudice & Discriminatioon against Disabled People
    - Rising their interest in disability isssue
    - Providing disability related informatiion

Target

         Over 18 years old, who live/work/visit in twelve Union Councils, and there are no disabled people in their house or family;

Method

         Interview by 24 staff (Female12/Male12) based on the questionairre: Forteen Staff with physical disabilities and ten staff, who are the family member of disabled people.

         Male staff interview with male on the road, in the bazaar and in front of schools, mosques and hospitals etc. Female staff interview with female mostly in interviewees' house.

    Parents' Marriage\

         60% of interviewee answered that their parents got married with the first cousin. We got the same result below 30 years old, from 30 to 50 years old and above 50 years old, which means there is no decrease of the cousin marriage at least till twenty years back.

    Communication of Non-Disabled People

    1. Can read and understand the simple articled of newspaper (Read & Think)

    Disability Model

    We asked about the disability model as follows;

    - Social Model: Disability issue is origginated from social problem
    - Medical Model: Disability issue is oriiginated from medical / personal problem



         Male answered, Social Model: 59%, Medical Model: 62% and Mix Model: 26%. Female answered, Social Model: 55%, Medical Model: 65% and Mix Model: 26%. Female tend to think that the problem is in medical / personal problem

         The result of statistics only of un-educated interviewees is as follows; Male answered, Social Model: 56%, Medical Model: 65% and Mix Model: 25%. Female answered, Social Model: 54%, Medical Model: 67% and Mix Model: 24%.
    Both male and female tend to think that the problem is more in medical/personal than in society.

    Predudice & Discriminatio against children & women with disabilities

    We asked as follows;

    - If wife become disabled, husband can gget married with 2nd wife without 1st wife's permission
    - Children with disabilities must go to special school



         Regarding to the question about women with disabilities, male:39%, female:31% answered "Yes, they can." Female tend to think that husband must get 1st wife's permission, which means that there is gender issue as well as disability issue.

         Regarding to the question about children with disabilities, male:85%, female:82% answered "Yes, they must." More that 80 % interviewees critisized the inclusive education.

         On the other hand, regarding to the survey, which was held in Peshawar, 1985, by M. Miles, it was shown that 20 % interviewee critisized the inclusive education. We can say that the 25 years changes and development of this country, including establishment of special schools, enforced the people to think that the children with disabilities must go to special school. "From Inclusion to Seclusion..."

         The result of statistics only of un-educated interviewees is as follows; Regarding to the question about women with disabilities, male:42%, female:47% answered "Yes, they can get married without her permission."

         Regarding to the question about children with disabilities, male:90%, female:87% answered "Yes, they must go to special school."
