It goes out to the village in a far dunes so that one teacher may collect the new kind of insect. Then, he is left in the valley in the dune by villager's strategy.

In the valley in the dunes, there was a woman who lived alone. Although he tries to escape many times, fails because the sand break. After all, he lives for many years in the valley in the dune, as a missing person. And, an unexpected end ......

"The woman in the Dunes" was made ​​into a movie by Hiroshi Teshigahara, Kōbō Abe also took part in the screenplay. This movie won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
